The Gut Truth: Why Gut Health Matters More Than You Might Think

The Gut Truth: Why Gut Health Matters More Than You Might Think

When was the last time you felt properly, genuinely good?

Not simply “fine” or getting through the day, but energised, clear-headed and ready for what the day brings?

There are many different things that contribute to how we feel, from our diet and sleep to exercise and lifestyle. But there’s another area of our health that is attracting increasing attention – and it’s one we don't always think about... our gut.

Your gut is about much more than digestion

When we talk about gut health, it's easy to think it's simply about digestion and the food we eat.

But there's much more going on.

Your gut is home to a vast and complex ecosystem of microorganisms, including trillions of bacteria. Together, these are commonly referred to as the gut microbiome.

These microorganisms form a natural part of our bodies and the gut microbiome is involved in a number of important processes.

It plays a role in digestion and how nutrients are processed, interacts closely with the immune system and even communicates with the brain.

The fascinating gut-brain connection

Yes, your gut and your brain actually communicate with each other.

This relationship is known as the gut-brain axis – a two-way communication system between the gastrointestinal tract and the brain.

Perhaps those phrases we use all the time – having “butterflies in your stomach” or experiencing a “gut feeling” – aren't quite as strange as they sound!

The relationship between the gut, its microorganisms and the rest of the body is a fascinating and continually developing area of research.

And it's one of the reasons why understanding and looking after our gut health has become such an important part of the wider conversation around health and wellbeing.

So, should we be paying more attention to our gut?

We think so.

At PH Life, we're all about helping people make informed choices and take positive steps towards feeling happier and healthier.

That doesn't mean looking for one miracle solution.

Instead, it's about understanding our bodies a little better and recognising the different things that can contribute to our overall health and wellbeing.

Gut health is one of them.

Welcome to The Gut Truth

We'll also be telling you more about MaXilin, a new addition to the PH Life range designed to support the gut microbiome.
